Lithonia, GEORGIA

Two aides to a Lithuanian mayor were arrested as they tried to enter the palace. Armed guards belonging to the local sheriff placed the two into a dungeon. Two days prior, the Lord Mayor had fired the local sheriff. The Council of Order ordered him to be reinstated to his position and the locks changed on the palace. Hence, the arrests.

April 10, 2008 - Sound like a fairy tale? It's Lithonia, Georgia, and the mayor is Joyce McKibben who fired the police chief and ordered him removed from the council meeting Monday night. That prompted the council to go into executive session. While they were gone, McKibben tried to adjourn the meeting. When the council returned, they announced they had voted unanimously to overide her decision and reinstated the police chief.

The council then asked McKibben's transition team to leave the meeting, but the team locked itself inside city hall. Police eventually got inside and removed the team members. After the two were arrested, the City Council fired them and ordered the locks changed.

A day after, McKibben showed up in a neck brace and claimed police officers assaulted her when she tried to take a computer out of her office.

On Wednesday, two aides argued with police about the locks were arrested when they went to City Hall with McKibben and camera crews to get the new key.

McKibben took office in January after winning the election by one vote.
